Here are autoglass questions McAllen customers bring in every week. Call 956-360-0178 or use the contact form. We quote by phone and photo — no online quote system.
Texas & McAllen
1. Will a cracked windshield pass inspection in Texas?
Texas does not run a separate windshield-glass checklist the way some states do, but you can still fail for safety. If damage blocks the driver’s view or keeps the wipers from working, fix it before inspection day. Call us for chip repair or a replacement before you roll up.
2. Is windshield replacement free in Texas?
No. Texas does not force free replacement. Some comprehensive policies cover repair or replacement after your deductible. We help you compare a claim vs cash when you call.
3. Does insurance cover windshield replacement in Texas?
Often under comprehensive coverage — not liability-only. Deductibles vary. Chip repairs are sometimes covered with little or no deductible. Read more on our insurance coverage page, then call with your policy details.
4. How does McAllen heat affect chips and cracks?
Hot glass plus cold AC stresses the impact point. A small chip can run across the windshield in a day or two in RGV heat. Do not wait out a heat wave on a fresh rock hit.
Repair vs replace
5. How do you decide repair vs replace?
Size, depth, location, number of chips, edge damage, and camera/sensor area all matter. Small chips outside the driver’s primary view are often repairable. Long cracks and edge hits usually need windshield replacement in McAllen.
6. Do you repair long cracks?
Short repairable damage can take resin. Long cracks typically need full replacement for strength and visibility. Send a photo — we will tell you honestly.
7. Can multiple chips be fixed in one visit?
Often yes, when each chip is still in repair range. More chips can mean more time. We confirm after seeing the glass.
8. What should I do right after a rock hits my windshield?
Stay safe, note where the pit is, avoid dumping cold water on hot glass, and call soon. Heat and highway vibration spread damage fast.
Cost, insurance & payment
9. How much does windshield replacement cost in McAllen?
It depends on glass type, vehicle, moldings, and whether camera calibration is required. Call 956-360-0178 with year, make, and model for a real number — we quote by phone and photo, not a ZIP widget.
10. Will filing a glass claim raise my rates?
A single comprehensive glass claim often does not behave like an at-fault accident, but insurers differ. If the repair is smaller than your deductible, paying cash can be smarter. We help you think it through.
11. Do you offer payment plans?
Ask when you call — we support practical payment options used by the shop (including Afterpay where offered). Details are confirmed before work starts.
ADAS & calibration
12. Is ADAS recalibration required after windshield replacement?
On many late-model vehicles, yes — the forward camera needs calibration after the glass is replaced. That labor is separate from the glass. We tell you up front if your vehicle needs it.
13. How long does calibration take?
Often an hour or more depending on static, dynamic, or both. Plan the full visit, not only the glass set.
Shop policy, timing & experience
14. Do you offer mobile or home service?
No. Fix-A-Crack does not offer home or mobile windshield service. We work in a shop-controlled environment in McAllen so urethane, seals, and camera work are done correctly. Bring the vehicle to 304 E Pecan Blvd, Suite P, or call 956-360-0178.
15. How long after windshield replacement can I drive?
Follow the tech’s adhesive instructions — many modern urethanes allow drive-away in about an hour. Chip repairs are usually faster. Do not guess; wait for the go-ahead on site.
16. Do you repair power window regulators?
Yes. Fix-A-Crack repairs many power window and regulator problems. Timing depends on diagnosis and parts, so same-day service is not guaranteed. Call 956-360-0178 with year, make, model, and which door failed.
17. Will you reattach my mirror and inspection sticker?
We reattach the rear-view mirror on a replacement. Inspection stickers are handled when condition and law allow — ask the tech that day.
Visiting the shop
18. Can I walk in, or do I need an appointment?
Chip and crack repairs: walk-ins are welcome during open hours, first come, first served. Many people are in and out in 10–30 minutes. Replacements and camera glass: call or text first so we can check the part. Saturday is the same idea — text a photo if you want to know whether we can take you.
19. What if you don’t answer the phone?
Text 956-360-0178 with a photo of the damage plus year, make, and model. We are often in the bay with a car. A lot of customers already get a quote back by text.
20. How long does a chip repair take versus a replacement?
Many chip repairs take about 10–30 minutes. A full windshield replacement takes longer — set the glass, then wait on the urethane. Plan a few hours and stay until the tech clears you to drive. Same-day replacement depends on the glass we have and the cure time, not a promise on every vehicle.
21. Where is Suite P — how do I find the shop?
Fix-A-Crack is at 304 E Pecan Blvd, Suite P, McAllen, TX 78501. Drive to the back of the building. Look for the garage doors with the Fix-A-Crack sign. If you do not see us, honk — we come out. We are in-shop only; bring the vehicle here.
22. Do I need my VIN?
For a simple chip, a photo is usually enough. For a replacement on a late-model windshield with a camera, yes — send the VIN so we quote the right glass. Text it with the photo or put it on the contact form.
23. Can kids or a passenger wait?
Yes. Families wait in the shop or in the car. Chip jobs are usually short. We offer water. Keep kids out of the work bay.
24. Do you fix sunroofs and door glass?
Yes. We replace and repair sunroofs, door glass, and rear glass when we can source the part. Timing depends on the pane. Call or text year, make, model, and which glass failed.
25. Do you work Saturday?
Yes. Saturday 12:00–4:00. Monday–Friday 8:30–5:30. Sunday closed. Saturday is a good day to text a photo first if you need a replacement.
26. If I speak Spanish, can you still help me?
Sí. Si hablas español, te atendemos. We will communicate — you do not need us to be fluent. Use the Español button on this site, walk in, or text photos to 956-360-0178.
Warranty & after the job
27. Do you offer a free 12-month replacement plan?
No. We do not sell a free 12-month road-hazard replacement plan. New road-hazard damage is a new inspection. Workmanship terms: after your glass work.
28. What does your lifetime windshield warranty cover?
Repairs: warranted for as long as you own the vehicle; if the break continues to spread, we credit the repair cost toward a Fix-A-Crack (or approved provider) replacement in the United States. Replacements: warranted against workmanship, leaks, and defects for as long as you own the vehicle if you notify us within 30 days of installation. That is not a free 12-month road-hazard plan.
